[Great anxiety prevailed here yesterday throughout the day, in consequence of private communications said to have been received by telegraph, stating that the Governor General having come down to the
Legislative Council Chamber to sanction the Rebellion Losses Bill among others, was insulted by a mob, pelted with rotten eggs, &c., and that the
mob had set fire to the Parliament House, which had been destroyed with all its contents. It was only at a late hour last evening that we received the following report, the telegraph, it appears, having
been prevented by the police from transmitting it sooner.]
