“Thursday 25th May 1775
This morning got up about 1 O Clock and took with me in Labarts Cannoe

4 Blankets
6 Shirts
3 pr Leggings
4 Mantlets
2. Small robes
Left the rest of the bale with gagnier.

My Guide would not take any more, saying there is not water enough. with these I hoped the Portage a little below Dumullins (out of the road) undiscovered; this I did fearing he Lacifera who were encamped together should follow me; and arrived at a Pritty large Lake about 4 P.M. where my guid informed me I should find some Ottonas; I found 2 families exceeding poor, almost naked and little or no pettries, they informed me they came from Michilamachinack; I have named this lake after them as appears by my Cart, or Draft of my tour. here I encamped for the night, and found myself embarrased, & very much imposed upon by my guide and Provost, being told by Provost who examined my guide that he could speak all the Languages I wanted as well Ottona as Tête de Boul, but upon proof I found he could scarse speak a word of Ottonas, not so much as to ask for a martin or an otter.
